Memories

New Paintings by

Jill Morris

Jill Morris’ new work has developed with expressionistic hues and methods as seen in her signature marbles motif “Childs Play”, evocative of childhood and carefree days of play. Other themes involved are inspired by a trip to the Galapagos Islands, home to iguanas, pelicans and sea terns.

Because of current media focusing on the Gulf of Mexico her “Pelican” in pristine white feathering with characteristic details is startling and penetrating swimming in crystal clear, clean water. “Blue Footed Sentinels” perch delightfully and serenely in rank formation facing the breeze on a perfect summer day.

Morris, a psychoanalyst by profession may be trying to jolt our collective pre-conscious guilt into action or at least into heightened appreciation of our earthly wildlife.

It’s uncanny that we view Morris’ tropical memories of these beautiful creatures at the time global media is showing their cousins covered in oily goop after the oil-pig drill drenched them in the excrement of technological greed, miscalculation, neglect and emotion-starved uncaring. The disaster is so destructive, ugly and vile towards all of nature and humankind that Morris’ and other artists’ portraits seem all the more precious and may be all that we are left with.
